Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and Sylvester Stallone 1 Month, 1 Week ago Karma: 2
I recently read an article about Sylvester Stallone and his use of human growth hormone in a cigar magazine (I was waiting for my car to get serviced, it was the only thing there for me to read). Apparently it has been a publicly-criticized issue for a a few years now. But in this article it was only briefly mentioned. The rest of the article was more about his new movie The Expendables.

Sylvester Stallone talks about how HGH helps him recover from the injuries he sustained from workout and movie stunts. I believe he also hints that HGH keeps aging at bay. Although I question the effectiveness of HGH injection, Stallone's use of it brings home certain points about HGH and human height.

HGH, along with other hormones, is responsible for stimulating height increase during puberty. But high HGH levels alone will not help an adult grow taller after puberty because the epiphyseal plates in grown adults are fused. If this was not the case, Stallone should have grown a few inches by now. He remains 5' 9" to this day.

The use (or misuse) of HGH in recent years is more intended for rejuvenation than growth. Medical experts say the effectiveness of HGH on aging is doubtful, and the users risk cancer development as a side effect. I personally think it's counter-intuitive to risk cancer for youth. You'd stay young, but you also die young.

I'd like to know what you guys think. Would you use HGH if it was available to you? And if so, for what purpose?
