Whether exercises can help must be very important with the age. If a man below 23 years old, suitable exercises can help. I had inceasing 2cm from 21-23 years old in my college, maybe because I played some basketball. However, I did not pay any attention to my height, so I smoke and stay up late or all night to play computer games. Personal opinion, good exercises and daily life can increase height much more than 2cm.
As a guy born in 1983.1, I did not lose the last chance to increase my height by exercises, just like you mentioned above. Most people say these will not help for me, but I will try to find out the answer by myself. So I stop smoking and drinking, form a better daily life. After some months, if these are proved not to be helpful for me, then I will accept all issues.

I have read many news articles that talk about how exercise boosts HGH levels. For athletes, HGH promotes muscle repair and growth. For older people, HGH is thought to have rejuvenating effects. This is why active and fit people tend to look younger. From the stuff I read, HGH levels spike more drastically during cardio workouts then, let's say, resistance/strength training.
While HGH is an important hormone for numerous bodily functions, its main job during puberty is to stimulate growth. For this reason, a healthy amount of cardio exercise would only improve your chances of growing taller. If you want to maximize the amount of HGH circulating in your body, I recommend high intensity interval training (HIIT). In HIIT, you exercise intensely for a few minutes, rest for a minute, and repeat again. It is designed to push your heart rate and muscles and is well-documented on the internet. All you have to do is search!

A lot of the techniques you can use to increase height will not be going to give you multiple inches in increase, but when added together with all the other techniques in can end up being a significant increase.
Exercising as others have mentioned does increase HGH, however if your natural growth spurt stage has ended it's not going to allow your bones to grow more (except in exceptional circumstances). What it will do is promote stronger muscles which will give you the framework you need to stand straighter and taller and much more confident.
I would say a person who works out with the correct exercises (and has stopped growing as an adult) could possibly gain 1/3 to 1 inch in height.
